Be Engaged, Be Entertained and Be a Blessing
CELEBRATE THE FESTIVE SEASON IN A HEALTHY AND ACTIVE FASHION AT SPORTS HUB COMMUNITY PLAY DAY!
02-Dec-2019

The endless feasts, parties and brunches with family and friends is a mainstay of the festive season. While enjoyable, these can derail efforts to live well. So this year, why not do something different by participating in the Sports Hub Community Play Day on 7 December?

To be held at OCBC Square, the quarterly affair is an opportunity for the community to get active and be entertained and engaged with loved ones. Giving back and supporting the community is also a major aim of the event, which is fitting given that it will be held during the festive season. Sports Hub Community Play Day is part of the Singapore Sports Hub’s Season of Giving, which will take place from 1 to 31 December.

This edition of Sports Hub Community Play Day will continue to add a refreshing twist on classic activities. Gather your family for the Sporting Family Fun Challenge and have a merry good time this December. Form a team of 2 to 5 members and explore 6 sporting stations with a joyful twist!

In collaboration with Sports Hub Community Play Day, the annual Santa Run for Wishes is back for the second time running at Singapore Sports Hub. The run has a strong philanthropic element, as it raises funds for Make-A-Wish Foundation® (Singapore) Ltd. This organisation helps grant wishes of children with lifethreatening conditions. Runners can look forward to three routes (2.5km, 5km and 10km), as well as a festive carnival at the event.

This quarterly event also boasts a new inclusive sporting experience at the Singapore Sports Hub’s Visitors Centre. Known as HADO, it combines the fun of modern video games with the joy of evergreen outdoor activities. The game uses augmented reality — seen in the hugely-popular Pokémon GO — to create an unforgettable game of dodgeball, which is played in teams of three.

Most interestingly, there’s no physical ball involved. But this doesn’t make it easier, as you still have to work as hard to throw or dodge the virtual ball. You’re guaranteed to be huffing and puffing by the time the 80-second game is over.

Spread the cheer by making crafts with family and friends in a series of workshops by Studio MU YU, an artisanal woodcraft brand that strongly believes in upcycling and sustainability. Workshops* are suitable for beginners and you will learn about sustainability, woodworking basics and the various types of wood. You can then bring home your creation! Here's what you get to make:

> XMAS TREE ORNAMENTS:
Make your personalised Christmas tree with upcycled wood. What's more, you get to paint and decorate the individual wood pieces as you see fit.

> STRING STARBURSTS / WOOD ORNAMENTS:
Top off your tree decorations with a star, which you can learn to create by using just nails and thread.

> A SNOWMAN NECKLACE:
It's important to show up in your festive best at the party. In this workshop, learn how to jazz up your outfit with a snowman necklace made from upcycled wood.

FIVE FESTIVE MUST-DOs

This season, we are bursting with goodies to share! Join us for a Christmas colouring contest, festive canoe rides and more, all topped with a chance to share your blessings. Don’t forget to grab a photo by our giant candy-filled Christmas tree.

1 BASK IN THE YULETIDE GLOW

For the first time, a 10-metre-tall Christmas Tree decorated with larger-than-life candy-themed ornaments will sprinkle joy on visitors to the Singapore Sports Hub. Look forward to a spectacular light up every night and don't forget to take pictures!

2 SLICE OF LOVE

Pizza may not be the most traditional festive food, but this colouring contest challenges the notion. You are invited to show us your dream Christmas pizza tree. For each entry received, Pizza Hut will donate a slice of pizza to the Association for Persons with Special Needs. The three most creative submissions will also walk away with prizes from Pizza Hut. Available daily at the Sports Hub Library.

3 ‘TIS THE SEASON TO BE… SUSTAINABLE

The festive season — with its mountain of one-time gift wrappers and packaging — can be bad for the environment. This unique gift wrapping station tackles that by using reusable materials, including magazines donated by SPH Magazines. Have your presents wrapped for free when you donate as you wish to Club Rainbow at our wrapping station located at Kallang Wave Mall on 14 and 15 December, from 10am to 10pm.

4 ROW AND BE MERRY

Forget the festive sleighs and welcome festive canoes! The Water Sports Centre’s open-deck canoes will be decked up with festive decorations to celebrate the Season of Giving. That’s not all: For every canoe you rent on 21 and 22 December, Singapore Sports Hub will donate to Club Rainbow. Available from 7am to 7pm on both days.

5 CHRISTMAS GIVEAWAY

Contribute to any Season of Giving causes or purchase an activity at the Singapore Sports Hub and receive a free Christmas ornament. It’s our little way to thank you for your blessings to the beneficiaries we’re supporting this festive season.

JOLLY GOOD TIMES

Carollers will spread the Yuletide vibe, singing everybody’s favourites, from the classic ‘Silent Night’ to the modern holiday mainstay, ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’. If that’s not enough to get you feeling festive, enjoy a Christmas movie screening or a festive balloon sculpture. Carolling takes place at Kallang Wave Mall at 5pm from 20 to 25 December. Christmas movie screenings will be held at Sports Hub Library daily, at 12pm and 5pm. Christmas mascots and balloon-sculptors will be around Kallang Wave Mall at 1pm and 6pm on 7, 8, 14, 15, 21 and 22 December.
